His answer brought me to tears:
Note: For those of you new to my blog, Nathaniel is my 14 year old son. He has Autism and Epilepsey and he is the inspiration for this blog.
I am the father of a child with Autism and this is my opportunity to share the trials and joys of raising a disabled child in the world and in the Catholic Church.

Nathaniel, you are definitely NOT a dummy! And for the record, you have a friend in us. We love you, we pray for you and yet we have never even met you. You are a breath of fresh air to the world. You ARE smart, you ARE beautiful, you ARE an awesome creation of our Creator. Thank you Bernie and Teresa for choosing life and for allowing this incredible blessing of a young man to enter and touch your life and the lives of so many others. The people who think and say these awful things are ignorant of the PERFECT expression of God's love. May we not be ignorant, but embrace His beauty.
ReplyDeleteForever in His amazing Love, Anna
Thanks Anna,
ReplyDeleteWill share with him.
Ouch! That definitely isn't right. Does Nathaniel have any groups that he goes to that could give him a chance to hang around with teens on the spectrum as well? I know AANE has a teen group, if they're in your area. It does make a huge difference to be with people who process information similarly.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness Nathaniel. You are in my prayers. My heart goes out to you. Be sure that God is listening. Keep talking to Him!
ReplyDeleteNathaniel: Did you ever consider that maybe those other people are the ones who are dumb? That they can't understand from where you're coming, and can't figure out how they're supposed to treat you.
ReplyDeleteHave faith. You're obviously a good person, and have a lot to offer people who are smart enough to accept your good points.
Best of luck, and keep your chin up!
As I have posted earlier Nathaniel is now involved with the Regular youth group at church and this is helping. He will be dancing with their Dance Troupe this weekend at the church festival in Lawrence, MA. St. Anthony Sat and Sun Labor Day Weekend. He is also included about 50% off the day in regular classes (I think this is were most of the issues arise).
ReplyDeleteThank you for the warm support.
